Business mission to Greece and North Macedonia

The Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) in cooperation with the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Athens and in Skopje prepared a business mission to Greece and North Macedonia during the official visit of the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová to both countries.

The business trip, which took place on the 5th-7th September 2022, brought opportunities to establish economic and research cooperation for 16 Slovak companies and relevant institutions operating in the field of energy, renewable resources, information and communication technologies, or intelligent management of waste and water management.

The main agenda of the working trip in Athens was the Greek-Slovak Business Forum prepared in cooperation with the Greek partner organization Enterprise Greece, which was represented by Ioannis Smyrlis, Secretary General for International Economic Relations of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Enterprise Greece. The patronage of the forum was granted by the Presidents of both countries, thanks to which the forum came to the attention of local entrepreneurs and more than thirty Greek entities showed interest in participating in the event. Part of the business forum was also the formal strengthening of SARIO´s partnership network in the territory by signing a memorandum of understanding with Enterprise Greece. The program also included a visit of the public cultural center Stavros Niarchos.

At the invitation of her counterpart, Steve Pendarovský, the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová completed the first historic visit of a head of state from Slovakia to North Macedonia. On this occasion, two presentations were prepared for the business delegation at the headquarters of the European Union delegation (EUDEL). The first of the presentations focused on the presentation of the new EU investment framework in North Macedonia, taking into account in particular the support for the development of renewable energy sources or waste management in the country. The participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the functioning of individual projects and challenges, the terms of participation in individual projects and an individual discussion with EUDEL representatives. Subsequently, representatives of Invest North Macedonia presented the country's environment and key economic sectors. At the end of the visit, the entrepreneurs had an opportunity to establish communication with Vasko Kovačevski, director of Elektrani na Severna Makedonija, during a working lunch.
