Slovakia Expands Global Trade Presence with U.S. Office

In a major step to strengthen economic ties with the United States, the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) has established a U.S. office and appointed Vladimir Lackovic as Special Representative to the U.S. for Trade and Investment. Based in New York City, Mr. Lackovic will lead efforts to attract high-value investments, support Slovak businesses in the U.S., and foster strategic trade partnerships between the two nations.

This initiative is a joint effort by SARIO, the Slovak Ministry of Economy, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, aligning with Slovakia’s National Strategy for Research, Development, and Innovation 2030. The new office will serve as a direct bridge between U.S. investors and Slovak industry leaders, creating opportunities in advanced technology, research, and manufacturing.

A Strategic Move to Boost Economic Growth

  • The U.S. is a key economic partner for Slovakia, with American investments significantly impacting the country’s technology and automotive industries.

  • Since 2015, SARIO has facilitated 17 major U.S. investment projects totaling €255 million and creating nearly 6,000 jobs. By opening a direct U.S. presence, Slovakia reaffirms its commitment to expanding transatlantic business collaboration.

  • Vladimir Lackovic will engage with economic stakeholders, policymakers, and investors to promote Slovakia’s investment potential.

As the co-founder of Digital Natives Group, a New York-based digital agency, he led strategic growth initiatives for clients such as the NFL, NBC, and the State of New York, helping them navigate market expansion and digital transformation. His leadership extended beyond business, as he built Slovak PRO into the largest network of Slovak professionals abroad, helping it become a dynamic organization of more than 3,000 members with chapters across the U.S. Through Slovak PRO, he has connected Slovak businesses with American markets, creating opportunities for collaboration and investment.

Beyond community-building, Lackovic has worked closely with Slovak technology firms, helping them navigate the complexities of the U.S. market, develop innovation strategies, and establish transatlantic business operations. His engagement in international relations and economic policy includes experience with the United Nations and the Slovak government, where he contributed to discussions on global economic development and strategic initiatives as part of his advanced studies.

Lackovic holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, CUNY, and a Master's degree in Global Affairs from The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where he focused on innovation, technology, and international relations.

Deepening U.S.-Slovak Economic Partnerships

“Slovakia has world-class talent, innovative industries, and a rapidly evolving economy. Strengthening our direct presence in the U.S. will unlock tremendous opportunities for investment, collaboration, and growth. I am honored to take on this role and look forward to deepening the economic ties between our nations,” said Lackovic.

This initiative positions Slovakia as a leading destination for technology and advanced manufacturing investments, ensuring U.S. businesses recognize Slovakia as a key strategic partner.
